Psilocybin for millennia is an integral part of religious rites around the world, including Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism and others. It also has medicinal value in treating depression when taken under supervised conditions with a trained therapist.  It could even lead to better treatments for addiction than those currently on the market today, which are often highly addictive themselves, such as methadone or suboxone.

It helps relieve anxiety and depression and may even be an effective addiction treatment. These effects are due to psilocybin’s ability to stimulate serotonin production in the brain. However, some roadblocks need to be overcome before this drug can become a mainstream therapy option. Nevertheless, it looks like we’ll soon have yet another avenue of relief available when it comes time for us Canadians feeling the pressures of everyday life.
